Soft Body Cape

Hey everyone. I'm working on a Darth Vader model and I'm determined to figure out an effective solution for the cape and inner robe. Naturally I tried using cloth first, but I was disappointed with the time-consuming previews and overall end result. So far, I've had some success making a softbody for the inner robe and painting weights so that it flows pretty effectively.

If I were to do a soft body setup for the cape, what shape should I make it? For example, do I want to model it in its relaxed position, draped over his shoulders (post rigging and skinning, with arms down) and then make it soft? Or should I model it as if I were doing a clothsim, in a wide circular shape ready to fall and drape down and around? Thanks in advance for any input/advice.

I modeled the cape in a relaxed state, as if he were just standing there, and made the vertices at the neck and beltline (cape and inner robe are separate soft body objects) super stiff. However, when I move the model, the soft bodies stay in place:

Any insight into what might be happening here would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. - When I made my soft body objects, I used the "Duplicate, make copy soft" option. Could this be a factor?

Your original piece of geo needs to be parented or constrained so it follows the body when it is translated. Id also make the goal weight of everything except for the neck 0 then add springs to get your desired behavior. Springs can be a little tricky but there is lots of documentation in help on on cgtalk.
