How to crreate Particle chunks

I barely remember there was tutorial explaining about creating chunks using particles system. Let say, If I create a box, add a particles that look identical to box... and once I hid the actual box (geometry) the particle would still look like a box "faking geometry" as I move silder, it will just explode with chunks going anywhere.. wondering if there's tutorial exisit around? if not how do I do this?

Anyone?

I have a tutorial about the MOTION, but have not posted the script to make the chunks. But it was featured on a Siggraph Master Class DVD...

I came with solution... I found Allen McKay's Script on fragmented particles... This will do good. Thanks for the help.

People need to start using the search function because this topic comes up about once a week it seems. No PFlow can't do chunks out of the box, at least not like PArray did. Allan did a tutorial showing how you can use scripting to do it though any number of ways (another reason why I fought Discreet so hard to choose scripting over a canned fragmenting feature). I also made a sample file for the CD a few releases ago (maybe MAX 6?) that showed how sometimes you don't NEED accurate fragements. PFlow can take a bunch of objects and randomly assign them to particles. In the example, I made a bunch of fragementary shapes, extruded them, grouped them and then used ShapeInstance to snap them to particles. When the teapot explodes, it hides and a bunch of fragmented shapes go flying outward and shatter as they bounce on the ground. It's not accurate, but it still looks convincing in many cases.

Remember, this is CG, not reality. If it looks right it is right.

CgTalk Maxscript Challenge 002: "Split it up"

i used SplitItUp on that tests:

http://www.core2core.de/spielwiese/...-moldy-test.avi
&
http://core2core.de/spielwiese/frag...basics-only.mov

link to the original maxfile from the upper test (1.9MB Max8 file):

fracture-test.zip

maybe some admin should create a STICKY thread like the tutorials galore thread in the max help forum. or we all should fill the CG WIKI at last.

kind regards

Maybe equinox was referring to Thinking Particles. TP can calculate fragments, never used it, but I know it is possible.

I am still learning tho.... Actually I was refering to one similar to Digimation Particles.... Digimation has features where all particles i.e. teapot could attach at 0 of time slider (Even if I hide teapot, the particle still would look like teapot) as I move slider toward to 40 second, it'd explode into particles.

Based on Allen McKay or such other tutorial, seem like I'd have to create crack first before I could just set it to explode?!?! using Parray or Pflow system... I just wonder if Max's particles is capable of doing what digimation or perhaps Thinking Particles could do?

Please ask if I wasn't clear enough.
