facial bone structure and facial skin animation

Hi all,
I need help to find out about procedural facial bone animation which in turn influence the skin of the face. In standard rig, in my understanding, we can use blendshapes resulted from manually modifying multiple facial models to control facial expressions. I have also seen images where riggers apply joints to facial areas to animate the face. In this case, it is more complicated. I am working with an anatomist who's specialise in modifying facial skeletal structure in order to improve facial structure. That means whatever is modified on the skeleton surface or structure, it will determine how the face looks like. The application is for patients who needs facial repair, alignment, cleft lip repair, etc.

Does anyone know any sources that I can tap into to find out how to rig the facial skeleton so that it automatically changes the skin structure? By that I mean, if we do change the facial bone's shape, it automatically updates the skin's deformation or shape. This sounds like a procedural setup.

Thanks for reading!
