How can I create a sand storm animation

I have a project coming up that requires a brief 20sec intro of a dessert scene with a mild sand storm blowing in it across the camera view. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this with Vue6 xstream and Maya 8. I have a moderate underdstanding of Vue with only a few months experience in it. I know I could acheive this effect in Maya but I was wondering if there's an easier way in Vue.

You could make some metaclouds, assign the proper colors and density maps, then animate them.

If you have Maya..and know how to use the particles...use them!
learn how to either use the sync plugin or xstream..
Believe you will have the most realistic results using maya particles.
