HARDCORE MODELING!: Ray Harryhausen Tribute: Ray Harryhausen

Nobody nabbed this theme yet, so I figured I'd go ahead and announce my intentions to work on an entry featuring the master himself.

Okay, quick overview: I've decided to work with Ray the elder, because to me age reflects wisdom and experience. When you look at a recent photo of Ray with some of his armatures he really looks the part: Seen it all, and doesn't regret a thing. Okay, enough with the talk.. onto some pictures.

Just doing a little topo study here, there aren't many good photos of Ray that I've found, so It'll be pretty much impossible to set up a typical modeling rig. I'll have to start with building a generic male base mesh and adjust the topology based on these plans:

I've already done quite a bit of work on the base mesh (started yesterday), so I should have some sort of progress shot later tonight.

Facial topology essentially completed. After UVs are created i'll drag it into ZBrush to add some gravity to the face in addition to all of the other tiny details that need to be done. But before I do that I'll probably work on some clothing and come up with a composition.

Well, slight change of plans.. Just picked up Mudbox, so I figured I'd break it in on this project. Here's today's update, still have a long way to go. Facial proportions will be adjusted a bit later, I got a little carried away

This sculpt is still relatively low res, I didnt get higher than about 300k polys, so there will be plenty of high frequency details when I get there.
