Inside info on the making of this image? The most he says is, "We used micropoly displacement for the small details, and then we rendered the ships." Given he either added the details by hand or displaced them, I'd hardly call that inside info.

I realise this is just an advert for Cebas products but... unless people are interested in collecting Cg artist baseball card-like information, this kind of thing isn't worth posting, in my opinion. I was thinking to myself, "Wow, this should be cool." and then discovered it was another one of those, "Nothing to see here" interviews.

R10k, I understand you. I'm not sure if it is very clever to post artist work under a company's name. It works much better to have the company's name under a great artwork, IMHO.

In fact this image was part of a bigger project. You can read about it here:
http://area.autodesk.com/showcase/b...z/details/4386/

There is even a project tutorial available that explains the displacement technique.
We are part of the Cebas betateam and Moritz was asked for some information about himself. To call the given info a "making of" is maybe a bit overrated.

cheers
Michael

Sorry guys if it wasn’t enough info for you. It is really more of an Artist Interview Series then an in-depth "making of". Although there is info on the making of.

Our objective was to highlight talented artists using cebas software, to give information on them and how they created their images. For the next one maybe we will try more in-depth questions but we wanted to keep it mostly about the artist.

I hope you all enjoy what is there and you are inspired to make some great artwork like Moritz.

Thanks
Michael McCarthy
