Density by material

I'm trying to pin particles to a surface depending on the texture, and i know you use the "density by material" option for that, so far so good.
However, i can't get it to follow an animated map, either procedural or pre-rendered.

Is there something i'm missing here? I've tried setting it up from a to z to no effect.

PFTools:Box#3 has option for texture color gradient tracking that can be used to animate particles according to the animated texture of a reference object. Standard PFlow operators don't have such flexibility. You can check out the demo version of Box#3 at the Orbaz web site.

There is no talk of an extra plug-in you need to get this functionality.

I could be wrong though.

hhmm, that's a bummer, you're right. I suppose there is no way around it but using that plug-in is there?
