Full Dome Video In Maya
Hello everyone. I am currently the Planetarium Producer for the CocaCola Space Science Center in Georgia and would like to know if anyone has ideas or experience rendering output from Maya for a full dome theater. What formats to use, any helpful plugins, or even the different steps to take from outputting a completed aninmation in Maya to viewing it in a full dome theater with 4096x4096 pixel resolution. Thanks

I worked on animations for dome theaters about 8 years ago.
In maya my camera rig was 5 cameras, front, back, left, right, top, each 90 degree cameras. The people who made the dome theater(SkySkan in NH) had their own stitching software that would warp the 5 into a single image. Which is essentially the same thing as making a spherical reflection map. Another option that some people had started to use with Mental Ray after I left was a fish eye lense shader that will capture a 180 degree dome. I never used the method since mental ray was still in early beta at the time for maya 2.0. http://www.highend3d.com/maya/downl...l_ray/3759.html http://www.atomlabs.org/asdn/ http://www.pixero.com/downloads_mr.html __________________
