How do i center an object

How do i center an object

i am trying to get a shape to center and for some reason it doesnt want to move. I open up the shape and select everything and goto modify>align>center horizontal and nothing happens. what am i doing wrong here?

try hitting ctr + k then clicking the align to stage button and using those buttons on that.

wait.. no i think that does soemthing else.

i want to get a picture to be centered on the " + " in the middle of the page.

That thing seems to center all objects around each other or something, when i have 2 pieces it mushes them together and when i have 1 object, nothing happens.

Make sure you have the "To Stage" option selected in the Align panel. If you're trying to center two separate items, group them before centering, then ungroup so they don't overlap.

if you only have one object and nothing happens it means one of three things:

1. you don't have the "align to stage" button selected
2. your object is already in the center of the stage
3. you're trying to center something within a symbol and the symbol is centered but the object is not centered within the symbol. double-click the symbol to edit it and center the object there
