Sci-fi alien world

Just displaying an old favourite picture of mine. This is still a WIP. Wanted some inspiration back to turn it into a great image. One of my ideas is to feature two spaceships battling in the air and one ship blown down. What do you say?

The website is down sometimes.

I would break up the texture a little. add a bit more variety to the stones

It still shouts : PROCEDURAL TEXTURE out loud.

nice start though

ahm.. if you are refering to my post.. then.. it's not my work..
it's another generated terrain, taken from the Terragen website.
(sorry if I have misunderstood any irony in your post)

not that is anything wrong with terrain generators.. simply stating a fact. and this one is even free and able to create nice results...

the colors are interesting.

i think the texture near the camera is very sharpen and
has a exagerated bump.

and that big conical shadow in middle of picture is too
opaque and is breaking the scene .

Thank you all for rejuvenating my inspiration back. This is going to look great for sure.

Kadde, you are right, i should 'increase' the shadow lightness and modify the bump mapping near the camera.

loganarts, thanks for understanding my intention to create a specific mood in the art work. Do check out my other art works at

Made some improvements as suggested:
  • lightened the shadows a bit and changed the sun light orientation so that it would minimize the 'cutting' of the scene into half.
  • Decreased the bump strength and the lightness of the surface near the camera.
