Fibre Channel network

Anyone out there using a fibre channel network. We are currently using Gigabit but are encountering congestion on the network - how much fast is FC? What sort of costs per PC? What are the best interface cards and switches?

It's expensive. I think that cards cost around $500 per card and the switches are probably at least $2k (US dollars)

Infiniband may be a better solution, it seems to be gaining support over the past years. Theyuse it often to interconnect nodes of cluster supercomputers, and I know that the throughput is very high (10gbps). Cost is about the same as FC i think, $600 US for a dual port card: http://www.pcnation.com/web/details...808&item=F35424

It requires 64bit PCI slots - probably you will need to buy server motherboards.

Normal PCI can transfer 133MB/s, which means whatever you put in there will not go beyond Gigabit ethernet.

ok, thanks. Good point. Yeah, not much point upgrading to that if there is another bottleneck.
