Modeling: rear nozzle/wing blue



I would like to greet all of you.
I first heard about this competition a couple of days ago, I read in the instructions the following passage "encapsulates the emotions and trappings of a character" and thought that this was an interesting idea. I also read the recommendations about models being small, but on the other hand, if a model is made small, it won't be seen no matter how wonderfully one has made them (although I'm novice and this is my first big work and I can't do texturing good enough, so I see this competition rather as training), therefore I decided to arrange the scene so that models in the forefront would are big but it's understood that they're moving and there goal is somewhere in the back. The goal itself would look small at this period of the journey. Unfortunately I'm not yet keen at making biological object, so let it be a spacecraft and since you hardly can expect emotions from a spacecraft, let them come from an onlooker. I plan to work with light and shade and try to make them look like they are flying towards some portal or black hole (quasar, pulsar..)

Hmm, I'm without a translator now :-). So I started to do a starcraft. At the bluest center area of this "nozzled wing" will be nozzle with jet of fire. The wing is fixed to the ship with the left side. I think about an engine appearing there (with ventilators, tubes etc.), but maybe it will be just this nozzle with "hole with jet", like engine inside a "wing", dunno.

Post Effects and Compositing: in search of_jet exhaust/quasar/comets



Anybody heard about some lessons called "making of jet exhaust, fluid jet and realistic comets,black holes an quasars"? :-). I couldn't find it yet. Well, I've began to work with particles, and have many messages like "Your graphics card doesn't support hardware rendering. Pixel shading extensions insufficient.", "Error: Graphics card capabilities are insufficient for rendering. Render aborted" it's so nice :-), but I'm trying to squeeze from my dear PC everything.

Modeling: cockpit_smooth troubles



spaceship's cockpit making "in progress", without lights/textures - find some problems with edge smoothing- it's not good to convert polygons to NURBS and NURBS to polygons several times without smoothing on some stage :-). I think about make it in one way - NURBS or poligons... I've been decided this trouble, yesterday (don't remember) - as you can see at other pics.

Modeling: cockpit



Spaceship's cockpit, with wings now (aerodynamics is bad, I know :-), without lights! "smooth" problem solved (almost). I'm placing here images, showing my "work progress", actually I've done now images with lights/textures, this picture was made yesteray, but I decided to put images here all together in same time. As I told- my texturing skill is not good yet, I'd like to draw with bamp mapping at the wings flaps and ailerons, and thinking about rivets on fuselage.

Here is cockpit, with lights (my favorite light is from "air intake" :-) ), and I'm going to RTFM about drawing/rotating/putting bamp map such, that "section lines" of wing/flat/aileron stay exactly it's need to be. Also I'm thinking about "paint textures on 3d objects"...

Shading (Textured and lit): cockpit & forebody



I've been modeled forebody, rear fuselage remained. Have read about "unwrap texture", painting and "wrap" it back, any comments?

Post Effects and Compositing: looking for some star object



Trying to find "object", the "jorney aim" - couse of some problems with particles, taking "glass", will be try that THIS will look like Supernova remnant...by adding some particles (that can be rendered on my machine) and changing form.

I have a favour to ask of you...

yea, thanks :-). Could you please say more constructively and explain in detail what the ... with my renders, where and which pics? I'm novice in 3D (about 2-3 month), so would like to know, whether digging-in?
