Star Trek: Special Editions

I know it's unreleasable to the general public, but I've always wanted to take a ST episode and redo all the FX. To that end I modeled an Enterprise (not far from the original), but the sheer amount of model making and rendering is making it a real strain to even begin. I'd like to attempt it with a few others as a training excercise. I've been modeling a while now, but I still need practice.

I thought of doing The Doomsday Machine first, as it's one of the best action episodes. (it's been done before too, but I've never seen hide nor hair of it) I've done quite a bit of work on finding out whats needed, and it boils down to about 150 FX shots. I've got the DM on DVD and it's rippable into pieces. There'll need to be quite a bit of audio editing and creative processing too. The beaming effects are also possible - there are no 'troublesome' shots in the episode.

The end result as I say would be unreleasable to the public, but it would be a hell of a cool exclusive for the team who made it.

If I can't get some help for this I'll move on to something else, but this is something I'd like to do. I'm sure you too have projects that your brain just gets stuck on

If you do attempt something, I'd be interested in helping out, though I'm really only a character and particle person so I don't know how much help I'd be.

I was watching the episode "Arena", the one with the Gorn. It'd be kinda fun to see if it was possible to matte the Gorn captain out of all the shots and replace him with a cool looking CG one.

Unfortunately that sort of processing is beyond most of us in terms of time and skill to get it looking even half decent. It's just not doable. There are some shows that would just be impossible to redo well, but the Doomsday Machine is not one of them - that's all possible.

Not that it's generated much interest though? I thought it might, as TOS essentially should be at the heart of a lot of FX creators - a good beginning for episodic SF.
