My apologies as I did not see your post until just now!

One thing I recommend is to go with a free image host such as ~ see the Sticky thread for instructions ~ because I cannot see your images, even when I copy and paste the URL into the yellow sun / mountain image icon in the EDIT POST text editor.

I recommend starting with the Beginner's Lounge Gesture exercises ~ they're a great way to get started!

The Exercises are linked at the beginning of that thread ~ why not try a few, and post them to that thread? Drawing is mainly a matter of practice ~ do you attend life drawing sessions? What is your background and training?

Hi Robert,

in addition to Rebecca's hints, here are three threads I have been reading for weeks on end from the beginning to end til it all oozed out of my ears... - and which were very helpful, of course:

Gestures - where, why, who, what?

opposing curves - loosen up and get tight

shading - using only greyscale

Please add your image links "into the yellow sun / mountain image icon in the EDIT POST text editor."

Finally, one sketch every three days is much when you try to get a fully finished character done. But as a practise this will take much too long. My suggestion is: do many sketches, if possible several each day. This is much easier to achive if you go for 2minute figure sketches instead of full concepts. Those will help you get directly to the essence of a figure, too.

The key bit to getting good at drawing fast I would say is to do a LOT of drawings. Set yourself a goal of doing at least 5-10 drawings a week ~ and that's not much.

I recommend looking into purchasing this book:

Anatomy Lessons from the Great Masters (Paperback)
by Robert Beverly Hale, Terence Coyle

and doing copies from the drawings contained there.

Check out the Anatomy Thread of Erich Schreiner, as he did a large number of Master copies there.

It's one of the best ways I know of to improve. Also I recommend doing drawings from life ~ of friends, people in public, yourself, etc. The goal is to capture a sense of movement and life.

Hi there,

I think the thing you need to do is to lengthen / elongate the forms, and to give them more of a curved sense of grace. Check out the gif below ~ hope it helps.
