Concept Sketch: Buried Treasure

For this concept I was looking to do something, hopefully, original. I just have a feeling that everybody's going to do hobbits in front of a mountain range.
In this we will see through the eyes of a child, seeking buried treasure with his "goonie" buddies.
We will see the real world, complete with zepplins, mammoth skyscrapers and transports. On the exact opposite side, the child's POV will reveal the true obstacles visible on the map, Pirate ships, giant crocodiles, and other Neverland-esque creations mirroring the real world obstacles.

The colors in this concept are meant only to represent distance. Warm colors represent object far from the camera, whereas cool colors show objects closest to it.

Yar-har-har, a pirates life for me!

Concept Sketch: The Equating Rock

OK, well last night I spent an hour doing sketches to get an idea of what I'm going for.
So here's the building at the center of frame that literally divides the real world and the child's imaginative world.

Concept Sketch: Buried Treasure... ARRRR!

OK, the original concept didn't pan out. It was way too complicated for a simple "Journey Begins" illustration.
But I continued with the Pirate motif, with a bunch of bucaneers beaching their ship on a Mayan beach, seeking a long lost treasure.
In the final version there'll be a longer draw distance that will hopefully foreshadow the crazy events along the journey.

Modeling: El Templo Dorado

Okey Dokey,
Just Tinkering around with the concept of the Mayan Treasure map. Just having laborious "fun" with digital masonry. Bricks suck, dude.
The final model could end up as silver, in which case it would be "El Templo Plateado" ... doesn't really roll off the tongue very well, huh?
Now I have to build vines, leaves, debris, etc. and dirty the thing up.

Question: The eyes? I tried to make it look like the eyes were added a thousand years after the temple was built. The bricks were just removed by thieves and thus we have jagged boxy eye contours. But, I don't know, it seems kind of lego-ish. Critiques? Should I make diagonal fill-in bricks like the nose?

Shading (Textured and lit): Temple Texturing- Some foliage

OK, did some gold discoloration (still don't like the lack of reflection, but should look better in an environment). Threw some random foliage on and around and little skulls here and there. I still have some dirtying to do.

Modeling: Hank the Giddy Pirate

Well, I started the modeling of my high poly characters. Here's Hank, and he's awfully excited about getting some booty (treasure). Now I only wish I'd saved a low-poly version. But, I simply don't have time to do any more facial modeling. Now, on to Texturing.

Modeling: "Look Daddy! I'm a Torso!"

Yeah, there's a classic Simpson's quote. OK, I spent the last couple hours putting a sickly pirate torso on Hank. The gut has some bending issues. But I think once I use a flesh colored shader it won't be such an issue.

Shading (Textured and lit): Hank gets colored

OK, Color and Pose Test.
I need to paint those weights better, but you get the idea. I kind of like the pose. It may or may not be the final one, but I wanted to include a goofy facial expression that mirrors some period tatoos. That's all maya paint, so it aint too pretty, but at this resolution it gets the job done.
