Sketchbook Thread of gorgnut

Hello people!
After working a bit with figure drawing I wanted to practice painting portraits. So I set as a goal to paint atleast 1 portrait each day for 5 days. I used reference photo for all the pieces. Here's the result
Sorted by date, starting with the oldest.

Above: Bill Murray, one of my favorite actor Spent around 1h on this one but im not really happy how it turned out (eyes and other facial features not lined up properly)

Above: Around 30mins, kinda sketchy and didn't turn out how I wanted it, decided to keep it since I feel it has some character.

Above: Portrait of Dave Chappelle. This one I'm kinda happy with, spent around 1h on it. Made it as a birthday gift for a friend

Above: Around 45 mins, reference photo was a younger man and I hope I caught the age somewhat right by making the skin smooth.

Above: Around 45mins, same as above trying to make the skin 'smooth'.

Comments and critics are more then welcome!

Hiya gorgnut,

Good to see these studies! Did you mind if I changed the name of your thread to Anatomy Thread of gorgnut? Then you could feel free to post your other work here as well.

I think these studies are a good start ~ I wonder if you would benefit also from doing smaller pencil / sketchbook studies of heads in different positions ~ have you seen Lyneran's thread? Some great studies there, which is a good example.

Great to see your stuff!

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

Hi Rebecca
Thanks for the comments! Sure, you can change the thread name, I can't promise to keep it updated though.

Nope, haven't tried that, but I'm sure going to! I will check out Lyneran's thread aswell, thanks for the tip!

gorgnut,

No problem, it just helps keep threads organized.

Were these done for a class, or just on your own?

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

Just for my own. The art class at school is only once a week and most people only choosed it cause they didn't find another subject. So we will only scratch the surface of art, testing out oils etc etc. However, sometime this spring we will get a chance to do a 'free' image completly on our own which will be intresting

Great to see you have your own initiative, then!

Looking forward to seeing your other work. You're more than welcome to post your Beginner's Lounge and OFDW pieces here as well, as a sort of record of your progress.

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

Alright, I'm not totally abandoning this thread, here's a little digital self portrait.
I look way to serious, I'm not a serious person. Really.

Very interesting stuff happening here. That self portrait is definitely you. You see, practice is a good thing. Now kick it up a notch and rejoin the sketchathon, chop chop

Gorg,

Judging from the evil grin, I think you and Martin should get along just fine.
