hiring of conventional artists

This is sort of a dumb question, but Ive always wondered how illustrators who work in conventional mediums find work (like those who work for magazines and such). I know with cg it is popular now for employers to look for work posted on internet forums, but I dont think conventional artists display their work like that. Is the newspaper where most traditional art jobs are found or is there some kind of agencys they go through? Im asking this in the context of finding concept artists.

there are many fine arts resources on the web now

try deviantart.com, for example. or just google. if you are looking for offline resources, there are annual collections of professional illustration, that i dont even know where you can buy, i just see them at places where i work like the expose books, that have samples and contact info about the artists.
