meteor landfall (Wip)

hi guys,

i got inspired by DD from their motorola pebl commmerical and deicided to kinda mimick it. i will plan to try to a version of this in houdini as well.

early stage:

early animation
the volumetrics are shaking at the end.. becuase of a error on my part.. will be fixed in future updates.

the shaking of the dust cloud at the end will be fixed in future updates

Certainly starting off well. You got some popping going on with the shockwave dustparticles coming towards the camera and obviously the issue that you have already stated but its a good start like i say.

What software are you using?

Making some good progress on that one. Been a while since i've done anything woth volumetrics, so my help may be limited.

How are the rendertimes with this? Are they manageable or lenghtly?

the render times with all the elements at once are quite lengthy like around 5 mins per frame, but i am going to just render everything in passes and comp it all.

the renders are looking good...why wouldnt you put some "afterburn glow" on your particle sytems? That would give it an impressive touch! hehe.

I would suggest that the meteorite would push the "earth" / plane up a little where the impact comes. so that you would have a hole appearing.
What you must not forget is that such an impact generates a massive dust cloud after the impact. (you can think of the post-explosion of an nuclear bomb.....).
What you could also do is make the "shockwave" on the plane: just place small object on your plane, then take the object particle emitter and take the circular one.....

Well, thats what i think of it anyway, but besides that, the beginning is looking very cool!!! hehe.

waaayy ahead of you maikeul,
i should have an update to post either tonight or tomorrow morning, everything you mention i already added to the new renders..
i just need to composite them, and upload it up. thanks for the helpful comments!

Good start, I think the renders are nice!

BUt I think the camera shake needs some work! It seems also that the enviroment gets blurred during the camera shake but not the smoke cloud. Maybe you could try to add the camera shake and blur in post with AfterEffects.

ahh didn't think about that.. i am also adding some dust getting kicked up by the shock wave.
