Peter Chung Wanted Animated "Flux"

"Peter Chung, creator of the animated Aeon Flux TV series, told SCI FI Wire that he isn't thrilled with the idea of a live-action version of his characters and still hopes to make an animated feature film about his female antihero. The series, which ran on MTV in the 1990s, is the basis of the upcoming live-action movie starring Charlize Theron."

"Since the show went off the air in 1996, Chung said he has worked on developing his leather-clad lethal secret agent for the big screen as an animated feature. But it fell out of his hands when it was turned into a live-action project."

This is music to my ears, since i am also still trying to get used to what we will be getting in the live action movie.

The best thing that will come from the Aeon Flux movie is having the original animated series being re-released on DVD.

The original DVD has been out of print for so long and the quality just doesn't compare to what's available today. Can't wait for my order of the new DVD set to arrive

I made a mini aeon flux movie myself when I was at Argonaut Games and Peter Chung personally told me he really liked it! I was thrilled to bits!

(sorry, just had to show off a little bit there!)

can we see a screenshot?

I am pretty bummed about this Aeon Flux movie; it didn't really seem to capture the feel of the series at all.
I would've killed for a highly stylized 3D animated movie with the same sensibility and kinetic energy the cartoon had. But I guess that's just too edgy for Hollywood.

Sure, you can see the whole thing if you follow the link to my work in my signature below.

The movie looks pretty disappointing, I agree, but Im still hoping its gonna be good. Going back to my own version, I also felt we totally missed the spirit of the original but a lot of big decisions werent my call, unfortuantely.

Unhappy

I usually like movies that Cherlize Theron is in, but as soon as I heard "live-action" "Aeon Flux" and "Cherlize Theron", I knew the next phrase in the sequence would be "major disappointment". Of course it looks better than I expected, but they set the bar pretty low when they decided to make it live-action instead of CG or cel animation.

actually paramount is not even letting critics get an advanced preview of the movie, the film must be so terrible.

This could have been the golden opportunity to do an adult CG movie right. Arg!

Hmmmm, adult CG movies are risky.

How many actual animated movies in the US aimed at adults actually made it? It is just simple math.

Some funky cool animation with wild style would have been awesome in 3d but would have failed miserably if done by Hollywood.

Something cool and funky needs to be targetted to a certain group and at a certain price.

If you do a cool 3d style one for the theatres

You'll basically be getting the fans and cgtalkers going to the film and a few sci fi geeks.

If you do a live action with Charlize Theron you'll get Theron fans, scifi fans, cgtalkers, and Aeon fans.

Movies are sucking right now, you think they would take any chances anymore. The chances studios take will get more and more rare.

I think the creator of AEON should find a way to go through and finance his 3d work at a reduced budget, and target his audience. Leave all the chances up to the Indie film creators who will emerge as the new movie studios.

I disagree, frankly the 2d style Chung has works great and you know what they say "If it isnt broke, dont fix it" The series was as adult as you could be withiout being pornography and anything beyond what was shown would be sex for sex.

Aeon in 3d would most likely look disgusting and would be more of a pain to make her attractive then to just draw it.

Its all relative, its like video game movies. (I know, don't go on a rant...) BUT for example, Resident Evil (NOT COMPARISON) People who never ever played any RE games, or maybe played them a little or saw some footage from a game or two, could have loved the RE movies. Then again, most people who played/still play RE games, and are familiar with the story/history of the series, probably didn't like the movies in some way or at all. It just SUCKS when companies/studios/who ever decides to take something that is great, and turn it into crap to TRY to make a profit. I think that the GAME of Aeon Flux looks like it might be a lot of fun and looks good, although its an adaptation of the film...which is a bastardization from Peter Chung's series. I just really hope, that if the movie is as terrible as everyone says/believes, that Peter Chung doesn't get any bad press. The creator of any property should never receive bad press when an adaptation of their work stinks. The Aeon Flux series rocked, and I cant wait for my DVD's either (22 more days till x-mas!) I hope he still gets to do an animated feature film.
