multi pass highlights

hi..im trying to get a render with the highlights (post effects) as a multi pass render..ie..the highlights on a seperate layer.

ive just rendered my scene and i get two files..one tiff with the entire scene on...but with highlights..and another psd with the highlights on a seperate layer.

can anyone tell me what good this would be...i need to be able to manipulate the highlights in psd to get them just the correct brightness..but because the highlights are also on the main render this seperate psd is no good to me..

what am i doing wrong?..

cheers

In render settings the regular Save > Path allways render the complete scene.
If you don't want that, uncheck "Save Image" on that page.

Then under Multi-Pass either select the passes you need (Diffuse, Shadow etc) to get the complete picture in passes.
-Or- if you only want the Specular as a separate pass, chose "Blend Channels".
Within Blend Channels check what you want and it will be a separate pass in one layer.

Cheers
Lennart
