Question Import Video Format for Maya 4.5

I'm in need to import a 2D lip synch performed in Toon Boom. Toon Boom exports a QuickTime with alpha. From that I can process through Cleaner 5 any format I want.

I'm having trouble getting Maya 4.5 to accept anything I try. It doesn't import the .mov file I get from Toon Boom. When I try to import an AVI file it gives me an error: Maya fails to convert into IFF format.

Can someone tell me what is the best format/compression (codec) for importing video into Maya 4.5?

I use maya on a Mac, and it will usually take just about anykind of quicktime. It seems to behave best with the DV codec in my experience, but I usually use the animation codec if i'm going for quality.

On the PC side, I hear it's kind of picky, you might be better off exporting an image sequence and importing it that way. I think you HAVE to do it that way if you want to render in MentalRay.

Please, correct me if i'm wrong anyone, this is an issue I have to deal with a lot too :(

Unhappy Import Image Sequence in Maya 4.5

Turns out that because of the look of this video I'm required to render using Mental Ray. Which means I must use an image sequence.

The only problem there is that my version of Maya 4.5 doesn't seem to want to import one. Someone mentioned that importing image sequences may not have become standard until Maya 5.

Does anyone know of a plug-in for 4.5 that will import an image sequence?

I dont remember now (im using Maya 7), but i think you need to set the keys manually, under the file node .
