American civil war

Here is the begining of my model for an american civil war type character.

PLease look at the mesh and provide any insights into improvements that could be made and also if you see any problem areas/unnecessary arees in the mesh.

Also please comment on proportions etc

Im going to try and keep this below 3000 polys.

please bear in mind this is my first human character so pleasee try to be constructive

Thank you all in advance

Itís looking nice mate, thereís a few things you could do (bear in mind Iím no expert when it comes to characters). You could weld the verts in the middle of the torso area and round of the arms with some extra cuts, other than that itís a great start!

Thanks mate,

ill round off the arnms, but the central seams might be used to model his jacket

anyone else got an opinion? i dont believe no has?

I'm no expert either, but you might want to adjust some vertexes the way I painted it for a more natural bending of the legs once you're going to animate your character.

p.s. I used paint

Here is my latest update, been working on the face and have made suggested improvements.

You can see a poly on the side of the head ive set asside for the ear. Any advice on how to keep this low poly would be apprecitaed. Should i just hinge from edge and then texture it?

also any thoughts further thoughts on the head would also be appreciated

Current poly count 1782

More crits would be welcome.

Thanks

Hey,

Not a bad start there! The eyebrows need to be more extruded outwards instead of inwards like they are now. Also, the feet or should I say shoes need to be bigger. Other than that, its a good start. I am to pretty new to character modeling, but from the book I am reading, you are doing a good job so far with the cuts in the right spots for animation.

Talking

Looking good. Just line up the vertices more so they'll run vertically and horizontally in line, if you know what I mean?

Keep up the good work Mr. Monkey
