Contour to heightmap?

Right now I think I'll just do it by manually building geometry along the contour lines, however after googling for a bit I came across some function in max called "make terrain" or something, which builds a terrain mesh from contour data in a dwg. Is there a way to do this kind of thing in LW or is there a 3rd party program for it?

Thanks.

Try applying Texture Displacement to a subpatched plane in Layout. Use a grayscale image for the texture.

Marvin Landis has some great landscape tools: http://amber.rc.arizona.edu/lw/

Might fit the bill.
