Scene From Mean Girls

Im finally out of the modelilng and setup phase and doing some animation
this is the first shot of my 25 seconds long final project for school.. Its based on the scene in mean girls where gretchen is reading an essay about the roman empire.. I've created this character and a roman setting to give it a thematic twist

the first shot is 8 or so seconds long.. this is just the lip sync

and this is a rough linear pose animation before the offsetting so i can still work on timing and the poses themselves

for those who dont know how rapid share works, when u click on this link u have to scroll down and select the free download after which ull wait in this queue for never more than 5 seconds and then the link will just pop up..

I personally don't use the posing method for animation, but I use the hybrid method, but I do have one main concern for this:

there are a lot of unneccessary movements here. In the last part "..."smooshed under his big feet" she moves back and forth..what is that for?

i had her bounce up and down when she said that but im workin to undo all this because i felt she was over animated and seeing as how she gets more and more tense in the sequence it was stupid to blow all this range on the first shot

changed some of the poses to bring the movement down a couple of notches and leave the hightened motion to wehre the shot peaks

constructive c&c is more than welcome

roughed out some head movements in the first 30 frames of the shot... i need to find something more precise that would show a sense of light annoyance in that time frame.. gonna research that tomorrow.. roughed out some anticipation on the getting up motion and got curious about how the cloth operator on the dress would hold up

most important change is that i've moved the getting up animation forward to leave her time to think and 'be' before she gets into her shpeil.. gettin up and speeding through her dialogue made less and less sense the more i watch caps.. i've started blockin out animation on her left hand which i unfortunately shied away from in the beginning.. the next shots will not suffer from that scare thats certain

I'm really looking for help on this project seeing as how i only see my teachers a few days a a week.. 30 views in a day and not a single reply.. at the very least say that the link is dead or some such.. constructive feedback would be of great help

this is a first and unsuccessful try at filling up 30 or so frames of nothing in the animation.. i thought i'd have her scratch her hand and sigh before she got started with her rant but it doesnt read well.. that emoting that 'quiet frustration' would take more time than i have.. live and learn i guess

i'm thinkin of having her simply check out her own butt or something because she sounds very preppy and superficial.. im open to suggestions

you might want to keep her seated until the actual dialogue kicks in, it's a little awkward to have her stand up (a little quick too) and then stand there for a second before starting her performance. I think she could even deliver the lines from the seated position then stand up as she gets more intense. If you want to keep her standing as is, i'd eliminate some of the weight shifting going on and focus on the important gestures of the hands that really get her message across, maybe have her say the lines while walking. Either way, i think you should smooth out the shiftiness and emphasize what is really important in the performance

what do you mean by shiftiness? are you saying the poses dont read? I have yet to put in much time on strenghtening the anticipation and followthru and i think that might help it.. i've also been working on slowing down the getting up motion and have it happen earlier in the shot so as to give her time to get into the shpeil.. updating soon

finalized some poses that didnt really work.. tweaked timing
ill be working on anticipation and follow thru till the next update
crits and comments are more than welcome

My first shot was not a success in my eyes and i have shelved it.. workin at a pro studio around pros and getting feedback has really helped develop my technique and workflow

I'm in the process of finishing shot 4 of my little recreation of the Mean Girls scene with gretchen

i still need to remove twinning and work on offseting keys to clean up the animation.. tehn on to secondary.. then on to another shot... hopefully..

crits are welcome..
