Master and Servant 2D Entry: Sami Rouhiainen

Sami Rouhiainen has entered the Master and Servant 2D.

Challenge Page

Latest Update: Coloring WIP: -

This is the last one from me, the picture is imo at a point where the idea of the piece can be seen. Added a few details to the warrior so the armour stands out a bit more.

Sadly, I have no energy left for this piece, Ill propably finish it someday after the contest is over and Im fully healed from the stress :-).

I learned lot from this project so big thanks to cgtalk for creating these challenges. Im not sure that Id have started doing this painting just for my self...

I just hope I can start the next challenge early. I found this challenge roughly 4 weeks ago, so that didnt leave as much time to work with the image that Id have liked.

My estimate is that I managed to put somewhere around 8-12 evenings worth of work to the painting and the reason to why posted all the stuff during the last day is that it was a terribly difficult desision for me to show any of my stuff at all. (But now Im really glad that I did)

Finally, thanks for all the feedback Ive gotten and see you in the next challenge (and Sorry for this long ramble)!

Decided to expand the view a bit, Im not sure how these picture dimensions goes with the competition rules. Should have asked?

Also added skyline and clouds, and some detail to the warrior in the the middle.

I played around for a long time with different textures and finally managed to put the rocks together. They are one of the few things that Im
honestly satisfied about this painting :).

Also added the firefly/pollen thingys to the air.

Decided that I need to finish up the background before adding anything more to the central elements of the painting. (In retrospect that propably wasnt the smartest thing to do...)

Did the hill at the back.

Imo it stands out a bit oo much, probaply should have made it less saturated? I have to try and see how that works someday...

This is the point were stuff starts to go terribly wrong :). This was done two days ago.

First I finished the hiltop at the background and started work on the castle ruins (still needs some work and finishing touches).

Then I started work on the "servants" of the image, which are the two monsters that are following the female warrior.

I first tried to paint the monster with my Wacom from scratch as i did with the initial sketch of this painting, but for some reason the results just werent any good.

I still have way too little experience with digital sketching and using a pad + pen. So, I had to fall back to plan b and do what I do best, which is pencils and paper.

The resulting speediesketch with some basic colouring of the monster can be seen in the next message.

This is yesterdays work. Added another monster and did some more work on the warrior. I actually did lot more but I somehow managed to crash Photoshop for the first time in 4 years and ofcourse I didnt save before that happened :)

This incident nearly broke my spirit, but now Im back and Im going to continue working as long as I can.

Atleast one more WIP-picture...
