Master and Servant 3D Entry: Ryan Gallinera

Ryan Gallinera has entered the Master and Servant 3D.

Challenge Page

Latest Update: Modeling: CG head - alternative

this is a rather far deviation from the other head model. I have to see if my time permits to let me work on the other head, cause i forsee it's more complicated with that "caricaturized / realistic" style.
Hopefully, the guys 'round here and give me some of their views / tips.

Concept Sketch: Conniving Thoughts

this imagery comes to mind...
master and servant...and yet partners in someway...

...the master sits on top scheming on what to do next...
...the servant sulks in his misery, he doesn't want this "partnership"...but he's sorta stuck in the deal...

worked out a quick sketch on paper and scanned the image, roughly coloured it in photoshop to get an idea of the mood / lighting...

...i plan to simplify it further in the CG model and hope to get it stylized than realistic...

how come there's a double post?! (is it me or what?!)

simple story: he wanted to rule the land and become the master...but he needed some help (yep, like the devil kind of thing)...and so they enter into a "partnership"...

anyway...this will be my first challenge to enter...
i hope to learn from this though...not really expecting to win it...
but i enter as to try finishing this is most important to me (fingers crossed).

g'luck to the rest...i'm quite honored to see the really good artists joining in
and giving some insights to the rest of the participants.

Concept Sketch: Servant -- concept tweaking

aiming for a more cartoony style...
experimented with initial concept and then i decided to sorta 'caricaturize' it.

the idea of the navy sparked some ideas...thanks...

now it's more like...serving his time...but not as a sailor of course.
i don't have a story cemented actually, but just the image of the master sitting
on the servant...i hope to add some comedic feel to it...nothing too serious
(the competiton itself is serious to give me some headaches!
now i'll have to figure out how to get this into CG).

what you guys think so far regarding the concept...in your opinon which is more visually favorable to you the first or latest one?!

after going through the posts...and then the FAQ....

i realized that it should depict 100% human...
or as quoted in the FAQ

Q: Does one of the characters in the Master and Servant relationship need to be human?
A: Yes - absolutely. One of the characters needs to be human - doesn't matter whether he/she is the master or servant.

Q: Does one of the characters in the Master and Servant relationship need to be 100% human?
A: Yes. One of the characters has to depict the globally accepted notion of the homo-sapien species.

so...i guess i'll have to revert and work on my original concept...w/c seemed to be more human / homo-sapien like in nature...will come up with an update later....
...out.

Modeling: Servants Head-closer look

This is the look so far. I'm still pondering on the thought of whether to go for a cartoony look or a more "caricaturized" style. The first idea is simpler and would be easier for me to finish, the latter would be indeed challenging for me, and may be able to play more with facial expressions perhaps. Any suggestions, critics or comments will be appreciated. Thank you.

After realizing that there should be a humaniod in the scene, i went back to the original concept. I had sketched an new one, except i just didn't have the chance to scan and post it here.

Anyway, i'm in the modelling stage right now. My concept is not that finalized, there may be some changes later...
