Master and Servant 3D Entry: Matthew Mobley

Matthew Mobley has entered the Master and Servant 3D.

Latest Update: Final Image: Calling it good enough

Well, here it is. I messed around with some of the stuff and finally implimented Crying Horn's suggestion of wood floors. I do like that better. The carpet survived as the runner in the isle.
The story: Once, he had been a highly respected man of God, spreading his word to believers and non-believers alike. After an incident that left several of his followers dead, he was sentenced to a mental hospital until he was deemed stable enough to re-enter society. Nobody truly believed he would ever see the outside world again. An angel came to him in a dream telling the priest that God would set him free from this Hell to save the sinners of the world. That night, a fire broke out in the kitchen of the hospital and in the confusion, he slipped out of the building and found refuge in an abandoned church. Sinners surrounded him. One by one, he began to "send them on their way" and placed their lifeless bodies in the pews of the church. He and his true master now preach to the departed congregation.

Concept Sketch: First very quick sketch

In this scene, you can see him preaching to his departed congregation and behind him, his true master.

Concept Sketch: Devil, anybody?

Initial quick concept for my devil character. I decided to go with a less human looking character and more of a serpent body rather than the traditional cloven hooves. I'm not sure of coloring yet.

Modeling: No puns, please.

Decided to start with one of the more simple elements to get warmed up. The pews will only be visible from the back and only partially visible. so the end has more detail than any other part. Further detail will be added with texture and/or displacement maps later.

Modeling: construction season

It's a very colorful church. Gives me a nice, happy feeling. ... I'll have to see what I can do to fix that.

Thumbs up

Wicked & Demonical
Consider some nice lighting - big contrast of warm and cold. Maybe a stained glass or two behind the character would be nice? I also believe the church should be highly devastated, so a lot of detail-work awaits you.
Good luck and have fun! Looking forward to see new images.

Hey, your idea is very interesting, especially the storyline which is amazingly detail... btw, It's the only idea I've seen yet that reaches with religion.. good luck...

Thanks for the support, guys. It's very appreciated.

I'm going to try to make this church look like it's been abandoned and not taken care of for years. The red and blue areas on the wall are going to be stained glass and I'd like to have some volumetric lighting enhancing the effect. The rest of the lighting is still in the ideas phase. There are so many possibilities for things that will work well, it's hard to choose one.

Well, time to get to my "real" job. Later.

Thanks, blackdragoncg. I've actually started modeling the priest and I'm hoping to get it to the point where I'm not embarassed to show it soon. I've actually had to scrap it a few times, but I think I've finally figured out how to get it looking right. The devil's going to be an interesting one to model. I've never done anything like that before, so we'll see how it turns out.

Modeling: Floating Disembodied Priest Head

This guy has been a major pain to model. Heís been fighting me every step of the way. But I think heís okay now. Thereís some things I donít like and could probably take the next month to tweak to perfection, but I remembered that this is probably the closest render thereís ever going to be for this guy. Heís going to be up in the front of the church, so we wonít be getting a horribly close look at him. So I think given that, Iíll stop rambling.

Heís based on a mug shot I found of a criminal from the 1930ís. I moved some of the facial features around so that heíd look a bit more evil but, depending on the lighting, could also look rather trustworthy. Wrinkles around the eyes and other things will be added with bump maps later. Now I need a break from the character and going back to the props for a while.

Hello my friend.......... found your thread at last! Fantastic concept and great modelling so far. Am really looking forward to seeing your progress. Think your layout will work well. At least most of your bodies will have their backs to us so it will just be a case of positioning them in interesting lolling poses in the pews. Great idea! Will be keeping an eye on your progress. Good luck! Claireabella

Hey Matthew,
The head model looks very nice, he looks like he is sinister. Keep up the good work.
