Ref Map Help

Hey all, I need some help here.

I was told that there's a way to make a box (like a dummy object maybe?) and have max render out some bitmaps of the surrounding objects to use as ref maps.

Any idea what that is or how to do it?

The sooner the better. I'm searching all over, but I don't think I'm using the right keywords... or something. bah. I can't find anything and the guy who told me about it was really vague and now I can't get a hold of him. T_T

Any help is GREATLY appricaited. Thanks.

hmmm...maybe he was talking about reflect/refract map. This map can do this...but why do you need it?

this is a panorama-render script, with helpfile
it renders 6 512x512 textures, that you can put together (you have to transform the upper and lower ones with "polar coordiantes" modfilter from ps)
and you have your sperehmap you can use for refmap
dont know if it works for yur max version, i only testet it in max4

edit:
other way is to make a highpoly sphere and render the reflection to texture with the function "render to texture"
