Intro Character Animation

Hello everyone,

A while ago I created a short animation to demo the CAT plugin for 3DSMax. It was an interesting experience and I enjoyed animating my character so last week I decided to extend it a little.

Here is the latest movie -

Now that I have this little animation, I would like to incorporate it into the opening sequence for my demo reel. My first thought was to chase the character off screen with my name and then have it sit in position before cutting. Another idea was to animate a second character who would chase the first guy away but that might complicate the scene too much. What do you think I should do?

Ultimately I want to keep the shot simple but I'm open to any ideas. In fact, I'm desperate for your ideas!

Many thanks,

Here's a quick test of my name flying in. Obviously I'll tweak the animation, if I chose to keep it, but I would be interested in any feedback.

nice animation with your character! I would like to see the same kind of feel in the text. You mentioned that you were going to tweak the animation, so excuse me if you have already thought of this; give some of the text squash and stretch as well. You could make it really extreme so that the focus stays with your name.

Thanks for the feedback goatrape. Here's another version with a little squash and stretch. I think I'd still like to apply a little more lean to the letters as the zoom in but it's progress

this is just a thought, you may not like it..but what do you think about having the animation stay basicly the same, but then have him see the text coming, then have him do a little cartoon like run in place (like his feet our skitting in place becuase hes trying to run away to fast) then have the text come in and actually knock him off screen. Might add a little bit of slap stick humor to it. Humor is always fun But just an idea.. (on a side note, i love the animation of the charactor. REally good..good job)

HAHA Naisa Evoli, that's it really a cool idea. This should make a great intro!

Thanks for the idea guys. I'll play around with it today and see what I can come up with. In the meantime, here's the rendered version from yesterday.

I'm going to put a little more work into the entrance of the letters but other than that, this version is nearly finished. Still open to other ideas though...

thats looking good. Maybe have the "jim" part fall a little later than the last name. Also once the name settles maybe have the character peek back into the scene and poke the letter "r" at the end of "Jagger." Then the "r" could do a ravenous dog atttack at the character. Just my 2 cents might add some more humor to it. Keep up the good work

2 things immediately struck me:

1. After he stops and looks around, there is a brief pause where he is totally static and it breaks up the flow.

2. When he does the "jump in the air, legs spinning before taking off" at the end, his body needs more lean backwards to emphasise the speed he is going (more Looney Toonesy')

Pretty good otherwise. I like the idea of your name knocking him off the screen.
I am trying to break your heart
And still I'd be lying if I said it wasn't easy
I am trying to break your heart
