Liscensed cars in movies

What are the rules for using liscensed cars in movies? I know there is a large $$$ charge in video games. And some aren't too fond of having their cars totaled. But it there a fee to use cars in movies? especially CG cars? Even if it isn't the "hero" car.

Hero car = Basically a car that is a "main actor."

Thx for any and all help

I believe it works the other way around in the movie world. The studios don't pay for a license to get to use a certain car, the companies loan out cars to the production to get them seen on screen. It's called product placement.

See: Gone in 60 Seconds, the Bond movies, I, Robot (the last being a shill for MANY things besides cars... mmm, vintage 2004 converse sneakers.... sweet sweet subtlety)
