Uni Assignment | 3D musical instrument

First time posting here, so its cheeky asking for advice so soon, but I thought id try. Assignment at my Uni, to model, and tex a musical instrument. Below is a render of it so far, in the first year we only use Cinema4d CE6 - which is a terible program and is incredibly limited in its features. So ive done by best to fake gi. The model is done, but I could do with some help on the textures.

HDRI isnt an option (c4d ce) but I want the crhome on the harmonica to be realistic as possible. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Ian

hi,
im sure that there must be a way to use hdri even in your software. may be not for lighing itself, but surely for reflections. try to create a big sphere with fliped normals and map the hdri image on it.
good luck

why not take other software to try texture?
easier and faster for beginers.

Well, we have to use Cinema 4d CE6 in the first year here. We move onto XSI in the 2nd and 3rd year I think.

Anyway, heres my first chrome for it:

You generally cant tell what the reflections are when looking at a harmonica. Anyway, crits/comments welcome.

Not sure, if at all, how I can tackle the engravings on the chrome.

Hey Ian
Looking good so far.

im not sure if its technically possible to do this in your version of c4d, but try with a reflective material with glossy/blurred reflections and a textured dome for the environment.

also a good idea would be to model an environment to present your instrument in. will get you higher marks

edit, id suggest using bumpmaps for the engravings

Thanks for comments,
I am working on the environment + context next. Not sure what setting it will be in. I'll try the bumpmaps next.

Anyone any ideas where this harmonica could 'be' like surrouding, on what surface etc.

\Edit:
Pedram - Im actually studying at the same institute as you, just a first year though. cia right?

Cheers
