my first digital painting

hi this is a painting I'm working on, my first digital. I'm using reference so it's not anything spectacular. I'm just taking a break from 3d and needed to improve my painting for texturing. everything is done in photoshop... critiques on my brush skills would help. I will also color on a different layer.

thanks, it wasn't my intention to stylize it but i realize it would consume way too much time for me to make it photoreal so I let the brushes show. working smarter/lazier whichever. haha

one thing i noticed just now...her right eye is smaller than her left...i think u should make it the same size as the left because the left eye is a lot more proportional i think

can't wait to see in color

okay let me see...will improve on that, look for more posts soon.

Question: does anyone have any tips on coloring a b&w painting in photoshop? I know for most artist they start in color but it's hard for me to understand color concept...

Great work. A really nice sense of form and shape. Will be keeping an eye on how this turns out.

BTW the reason why your image isn't showing up is because you're linking the .htm file in the tags rather than the .jpg

You need to link them separtely rather than the webpage.

hey, it's nice overall!

Try to get less contrast in your shades (dunno if its clear?). Mostly shades are pretty smooth.
ill stikck around to check for updates

got it, smooth it out more. I'm new to the brushes in photoshop and it's difficult sometime for me to get the blending right. I try smudge and blur but it doesn't help much. It's probably the setting on my PS or it's technique that is bad... now that I think about it, it's probably both. TIPS ANYONE?

blur tool is more for detailed areas, for small areas.

Question Crits please...

I dunno about this design, trying to go for scifi pinup stuff. I haven't shaded the body yet so don't mind the weird areas around the stomache, I just want ideas about the outfit. thanks. should i go with this top or should i keep it modern?

the second top is much better...that thing coming down her stomach looks like it could be painful in the nether regions!

guess you're right, I wasn't thinking in the female perspective much...haha I started on the second already. thanks

here's what I got so far... I think i'm gonna hold off cause I've been holding the organic modeling dvd from tareq mirza for awhile now and I'm really excited about trying his 3d modeling technique. *sigh* 2d/3d ...torn between two lovers...

I decided not to create her outfit and stick with the reference. Any critiques would be appreciated so far, thanks.
