uv mapping with normal maps (PROBLEM)

i'm trying to produce some normal maps for a hand model, made for use in realtime. i've used normal mapping for other purposes than realtime, using GUV tiling and i've had no problem before. i'm following the general idea of whats said in the zbrush practical guide to produce the effect i want and for some reason, the map produced messes up as seen in the first image. if i do a uv check, i get this in zbrush (second image)

PLEASE! any help would be greatly appreciated!
