Grand Space Opera 3D Entry: Bart Schuring

Bart Schuring has entered the Grand Space Opera 3D.

Challenge Page

Latest Update: Modeling: Models

Started modeling on some small things. The lower images are a transportcontainer and a storagetank. The upper images show some parts of a 'single containercarrier'. These things will be part of an industrial area with spacedocks and cargoterminals. I'm planning to put a number of different cargoships in there as well.

Concept

Hello and good luck to everyone participating in the challenge!!!
This is the first time I join a cgchallenge. I hope to learn a lot during this challenge since I'm not a very good modeller yet . So all comments and feedback on my work are highly appreciated.

My idea:
The Great Migration/Exploration
A very advanced civilization used to live in a large peacefull solarsystem. But a couple of 1000 years ago their sun was at the end of it's lifetime. So the sun started to grow into a red giant, engulfing all the planets. The people already expected this to happen. So they started to build two giant spaceships, tens of thousends of kilometers long. These spaceships were designed to take the two biggest inhabited planets and start a journey into the unknown. The entire civilization is now living on these two ships. They are wandering through the galaxy in search of a new solarsystem that is suitable for their two planets. Meanwhile they explore the galaxy and mine planets and asteroids for raw materials.

I made a quick sketch of the scene, i'll try to get this online as quick as possible.

Concept Sketch: Quick concept sketch

Just a quick sketch to show the concept and to get a feeling of the scale. Two 'planetships' with a lot of traffic around and between them.

Paddu,
Hello and welcome to the contest, my first challenge as well. Your concept sketches look nice, I like the look of the planet ship better in the first concept better. I think its just that it looks like more people could live on the first concept ship than the second one.
Good luck
Mike

Concept Sketch: Organic Concept

I've been playing around with Corel Painter, never used this program before. The concept has an organic look. I think I'll go with a more industrial look for the final concept, like the first concept sketch.

I wonder how an exam for the licence to be a pilot of the planet ship would look like

Great idea! And the sketches are very nice. First models look promising, I'm waiting for more
