CgTalk Daily Sketch 20 : "BURN OUT"

Today's topic:

"Burn Out" by Kieronh

Posted June 23: 9:00 US EST

Welcome to the cgtalk sketch group.

We will try to post one of these topics once a day for your enjoyment.

These are the rules:
* Post only your FINAL piece on this thread, based on the topic on the thread.
* 640 x 480 or 480 x 640
* They can be done on any medium.
* If you wish, you can add a brief text description about your piece.
* Only original compositions. No "tributes" o plagiarizing.
* The topics will be posted every day between 10:00 - 12:00 am US EST.
* The artist also has to post total length of time it took (Thanks Clanger for the idea) and program used.
* Only final pieces can be posted on the thread. They must have been done AFTER the topic has been announced.
* Any piece caught breaking the rules will be taken off the thread.
* The topics will be picked at random from the list on this thread
(The author will be given credit). So guys keep them coming.
*You can add multiple entries, but please dont post WIP (Unless you intend to update them). NEW RULE!
* Ill post ANOTHER thread to quantify and track WHO has participated the most on these threads.

Good luck

-Roberto

Blue Screen Burn out

It's easy to get absorbed in these! This was 2 hours in PS7, and I finally had to make myself quit...I got intimidated with my bad drawing skills (straight line, HA!) so abused the rectangular marquee tool...my bad. But I DID draw the chair, yea me!

TeoM,

Cool viewpoint and color scheme. Your style is very impressive. . .

Unlike mine . . . 1Hr, Flash 5

Oh boy! Its a doofus with a flame thrower.

I hate sucking!

And yet I do it consistently. Hmph.

At least I'm able to glimpse at skilled work here. . .

Question

Ilikesoup was kind enough to explain how he made his "fat lady" in photoshop, since I am still learning how to use photoshop for creating art and everyones work here is SO IMPRESSIVE I have a request if you guys can explain how you did it, say special brushes, layers, tricks, (especially with shadows and shading) along with your piece so those of us still learning can learn from you I'd appreciate it.

I will even write down what I do in case there is someone more newbie than me.

Here's a retread of my "Self Portrait" post. Me at work -- fits just as well:

I'll post a legitimate pic later today.

ravioli_rancher -- that is so NOT sucky. I really like it and your avatar cracks me up.

Quality level is already high. Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines. . .

Photoshop 2 hours

Oh ... absolutely must get in some American muscle on this one!

tiger1313 - Very nice! Reminded me immediately of this one by Craig Mullens. That's a compliment. I only wish someone, someday, would compare one of mine to the Master!

voila. For the background I was inspired by this picture I got on my hard-disk from the time I didn't name it after the author.. stupid me. 20 sketches already. I should've worked some more on the foreground hill but well, you could say my fuel was burned out too

[edit]I played somewhat with the levels, so it would look like a sundown but I left it be, I couldn't improve it..

Crits appreciated

tiger1313: great style, looks a little like Matthew-S's style
TeoM: fantastic how you did that cloud
Kirt: kicking ass as always: especially the chrome.

For all Jack Benny's success as a comedian, he always wished that he had been a concert violinist. And I'd take your pictures over stinky ol' Craig Mullins' any day.
