An image I did awhile back. I've wanted to model him out, but never got around to it. So here it goes.

I remember this character from a long while back in the forums... loved it then... love it now. Can't wait to see it.

Thanks Dubu. Hopefully I can do it some justice. I didn't have to worry about how he'd actually physically move in a 2d image. Game model is a different story.

If you translate this to 3d as well as you did the illustration, this should look ace!
Nice to see an original concept, rather than another muscly, spandex clad supervillan with radioactive testicles (or something)

Ive got my eye on this one...

Hey Andy. Nice work on your site. I wanted to do something different. Spandex is the in thing around here. Updates will be coming still but less frequent. I'm back at work.

@ Dubu, your work is rad too. I really liked the design of your home page. Interesting way to use that photo.

I've got the shape down to pretty much I want. I'll refine it next and add the details. I want to do some more work on the joints, feet and hands. I want it to look pretty robotic but still fantastic. There is still a lot of optimizing that can be done to give me more tris.

lookin good!

Nice head shape.

I think his body is a bit too blocky though. Aint you gonna add those bolts on his arms? or are you nearing your budget?

I wonder how you will deal with the design of the oven. I would like to animate a run cycle of a such robot, you know, he is really stylizised so...

Awesome character. Great work to me on the model already. Great progression, watching intently.
The run cycle should include little bits of coal bouncing out of his furnace.

Well I'm getting busy with work again and will be gone this weekend. But I should be able to update with a newer version soon. I have smoothed out the torso more and added the nail thingies. I optimised in other areas so I've got another 100-200 tris left to work with. Which I think is more then enough. I'm going to give the normal maps thing a try.

What are the conditions for this competition? Do we have to pose it. I noticed in another comp you guys had to but it didn't say in this one.

Well this guys took a little longer to unwrap then I expected. I sat down for a couple of hours tonight, but it still has a bit more to be mapped. I'll take the rest of the modelling from there.

I might export it into an engine to see what it would look like with the particles coming out.



Shit I just realized I totally changed the fore arms and hands. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about it. I have done other sketches of him since the above linked image. But I never realised I'd done a change like that. Gotta decide if I'll go back.

Looking excellent! Only crits i can give is that the legs seem a little bit blocky, and that the furnace opening could do with losing the symmetry - dent it a bit. Also take a look at your smoothing groups / Hard edges. It could do with some.
The head is looking really good.
Hope you do a good job with the textures! Itll be tricky to make such a darkly coloured character intresting.
