Optical Flow ala LOTR

Does anybody know if Digital Fusion can do 'optical flow' natively or by plugin? What I'm thinking of is something like the wraiths in LOTR,TTT,TROK where a fire layer drove the output of the under layer to give that etheral flowing look.

Are you talking about the displace warp modifier? That will take an image and move the pixels based on the luma of a fire element. You may also want to look at the krokodove plugins, as there is one called offset that does more or less the same thing. The difference being that the DF native one is sort of a logrithmic offset based on a center (no displacement at the center ramping up to more displacement further from the center) where the krokodove one is a linear offset, and will displace all pixels the same distance.

Combine that with creative use of merge modes, and you could probably get what you're looking for.
