light in fog --- volumetric and fog questions
I was recently experimenting with the volumetric light within 3dsmax4 and I cannot get the results I want. First off, what do you have to do to make volume light show up? It doesnt need fog or particles to be visible does it? It doesnt seem like it should, but I messed around with the settings quite a bit and the light did not show up at all.
What I am going for is a dance scene where there is fog close to the ground and the light is very visible going through this fog.
I am not really sure how to appproach something like this though, any ideas?

Create a spot or direct light
open your enviroment dialog box, and create a new volume light effect.
Select the spot or direct light that you just made
render the image.
Particles and fog are not needed.

Maybe your problem is the view you are render that light.
If you see it from top, left, front, etc... you will not see the effect of the vol. light. Try rendering fro perpective o camera views.
The steps are what 3DZealot told you.
I hope that helps.
