Vector Render: How do I get a glow?

While trying over and over to do a vector render using a glow in a scene with a candle Maya wont render the glow. It is kind of important and the render options seem like are very capable of treating a glow as a gradient mesh or similar type or vector data. SO why isn't it working? and is there a trick to go around this?
Thank You.

glows, optical fx, volume lights, paintfx, fur, are all post effects. They are currently only supported by the maya software renderer, not the vector, hardware, or mr renderer. This is all explained in the manual.
