I look forward in placing an entry in this competition. I hope you all will give me a straight forward critique on the work I will be submitting and you can count on me to do the same. Thanks again for this opportunity.

Concept Sketch: birthday...(I dont know yet)

After days of thinking, I think I have something. The main goal I want to accomplish is to take a normal happy day and expose this theme in a way unseen to something else in the scene. I also wanted to take something normal in nature and put a twist on it.
So here's the scene: Imagine a sunny, warm day at the park, set in a dismal future. Little bobby and his friends are celebrating a birthday at their local park. His mom had all the ingredients for a successful day layed out on the picnic table. The cake is ready with a barrage of presents and a gallon of thier favorite sugary beverage. Bobby and his friends are palying a game on the field, mom close at hand, away from the assortment of goodies awaiting them. Unknown to them, a war is taking place. A war so small, they don't notice in thier times of laughter, a war that may ruin thier day. The inscts of the local park are not your ordinary insects. Driven by years of biological enhancements and scientific exploitations, their is a war between the "flyers" and the "crawlers" Mostly overlooked, these starving creatures, now scavengers go for the prestine birthday feast to fill their little bellies and support thier hives and nests. The crawlers, being there first, take full advantage of the feast and begin ever so organized, taking the food back to the nest. But the flyers see this and begin to fly in for their share. A war is about to begin.

these sketches are VERY ROUGH. I had to do them between jobs at work.

Here is a concept of the composition.
I need some help here, this is my first post. Definately need to refine.

I think your concept is extremely strong, this will be a complex piece but a really cool one if you can get it rendered as clearly as you are picturing it in your head. The first sketch, of the flyer/drone, is REALLY cool and bodes well for the rest of the creatures in your piece.

At this early stage, if I had a suggestion, it would be to think about maybe doing this from a low angle perspective, like the viewer's eye is right near the picnic food... the humans can be in the background, the crawlers are coming in from behind the viewer in the foreground, and you can see the flyers face on that way. Just an idea, but it feels like a deeper composition to me that way.

What kind of finished rendering will this be? Photoshop painting? Crayon?

Nice, seems like a good idea I like the insect war thing, but I am not sure about including imagery of birthday cakes and birthday picnic etc. etc.

Looks like a cool concept. I'll look forward to seeing what you come up with...
just a thought - It might enhance that irony you seem to be going for if you also include some bugs that are normally less sinister......i.e. butterflies, ladybugs, worms...
