it really takes time to get a hang of it.
the best advice i have is to get good reference and follow it.

forget doing heroic models for now. atleast until you understand how things work. then you can exaggerate things more effectively.

get the google toolbar if you havent already. then its just a matter of typing in what your looking for ( such as "chest", and search for images. ) your bound to come up with a few decent pictures.
at the same time, you might want to look up some sites that have the proper names for muscles and take a look at how things are arranged, and the flow of muscles.. then you can arrange polygons more properly.

( i should release this model below to the public in some form or another soon, so you could study it if you want.

That picture alone is very instructive indeed.

Which camera mode do you personally favorise during the modeling process, while excusing me for the newbie question of course but I've just stopped using internal references and so far, after searching a few threads I had to conclude that while I get a better upclose view of the surface in Orthographic display,it seems much more logical to me to shape them in the same view mode as the final render.

I guess this kinda answers my question, the final look is what counts, but I'd like to have your advice.

wow....great model Whisper, as always.....its a honour your reply to me. im a fan of your models, i have all of yours timelapses videos, and I will do a more deep study on topology and how muscles works to do something believable...thanx a lot for the advices

Hi....i have started from the begining my model...using some references as background in max....but some questions came to my mind during the modeling...what is better model arms and legs separately and then put all in the chest...or do all the volume and then add details...please help
this guy is made by the 1st option......but i dont know why when i export to wings from max it looks like this in smoothed view on wings:

Probably something to do with either smoothing groups(try changing the smooth shading angle to 60 degrees or more) OR having unwelded vertice(in wings, try selecting the BODY and RMB and choose WELD)

Can't think of anything else.
