Foot constraint question

Hey guys! I really need some help here. I have a rig I built in school using Maya 4 on a PC. I am trying to reuse it on Maya 5 on the Mac. The exact same rig is acting differently on the different platform and I was wondering if someone had a solution. Maybe its just a preference I need to change?

Anyway, the rig has the reverse foot lock setup. On the PC on Maya 4, when I move the root pelvis joint, up and down, and back and forth, the constraints on the reverse foot lock "hold" the feet in position. In other words, if I move the root pelvis joint down, the feet stay on their plane and the knees bend automatically. On the Mac version, the feet just pass right through the reverse foot with no bend in the knee joints.

I am posting a few links below so you can visualize the problem.

You will have to copy and paste into your browser window. I know its a pain in the ass, but I would really appreciate the extra effort and help your parts.

I am hoping for a solution other than, "Macs suck, get a PC"

there is an "enhancement" to the IK in maya 5 which causes IK in old scenes to stuff up...

turn "sticky" ON on all your IK handles...

John,

You are the man! It worked like a charm.
One more favor to ask, can you make it to my home on Saturday to help me patch all the holes I have put in the wall with my head?

Heh, I feel ya man. I read this thread a month too late. I had a character that was acting goofy but, after a few weeks, found that this little 'sticky' attr was all I needed. This thread was posted about 2 weeks before I finally found the root cause. Of course, I then found this thread which makes my pain almost laughable.

DA$# you john_homer, where were you when I needed you?!?!

*cough* I'm kidding of course.

But yeah, moments like those frustrate you more than anything. mostly because you know it SHOULD work, the logic is solid, and it ends up being a uhm... "bug"?. But ultimately... the holes that are in my leg (pencil) are more due to the lack of 3D peers, than thing else. I miss being able to talk over my shoulder and ask a classmate what the heck is goin on with my rig. Simple solution should only require simple explanation (we do mess about in a VISUAL field, don't we?).

*sigh* I'm rambling, aren't I? *duck*

Sorry for hijacking your thread.

- Jeremy

Hey verbal007,

No apology required.

Knowing that someone else suffered through the same type of nonsense was enough for me put down the razor blade I was so serously starting to contemplate.

Thanks again to John for helping, now the client might actually be satisfied tomorrow morning! (yeah right)

Oh man, don't tell me you're getting PAID for your frustration. *tightens noose* (ok, I'm done)

P.S. Nice quote... I think I'll delete mine now.
