Simple MEL Help needed

I'm following a tutorial that tells me to enter this commad. It gives me an error. Anyone know how to fix this?
I can't use the Connection Editor becuase I want a negative value for the rotateY value...

Left_ikHandle_Ankle.twist = -LeftFoot_Control.rotateY

// Error: Left_ikHandle_Ankle.twist = -LeftFoot_Control.rotateY; //
// Error: Invalid use of Maya object "LeftFoot_Control.rotateY". //

Thanks for any help

Unless you put the code snippet in an expression editor, it will caused error.

You can not do it directly like that, if you want to set an attribute you will need to set it using 'setAttr' command, and querying an attribute use `getAttr` command.

But if it is an expression you can type it as what you have.

Great, awesome, that worked.
I was trying to just write it into the command line.

Thank you soooooo much for the help, that would have taken me a day to figure out.
