Beware!! First Attempt at a Interior Design (WIP)

Greetings fellow Earthlings!

I am currently a student, a total "n00b" and (as far as I know) a human being (my parents have yet to show me evidence on the contrary like a space ship; so it's safe to assume I am a human being...right...?)

Well anyway, here is an interior I am currently working on for a school project. Unfortunately I have the modelling and lighting skills of a blind monkey (not that there is anything wrong with being a visually impaired primate; I am just saying) So I have kinda messed it up and looking for some thoughts and advice on how to fix it.

I should say I am not looking for total realism or for it to be 100% exact to the original, just a project that looks nice and passable. As you can see I have made tons of mistakes (like the camera angle and the absurdly large stairs) and not to mention a few obvious cop-outs.

Anyway here they are:

Thank-you so much for your time and for even just looking at my little mess. I honestly appreciate it. Also me to apologize in advance if I have no idea what your saying. I am very much a newbie and a little (actually very) slow on the technical jargon.
