selecting pieces of multiple layers at the same time

does anyone know how to do that?
i mean..
i have several layers.
i want tomove just one portion of ALL layers at the same time.
but , each time i try , i either move only the layer on which i am , or the whole of the layer, and not the selected portion
what i want , is to be able to creat a selection, and move that portion around , IN ALL THE LINKED LAYERS AT THE SAME TIME.
is that possible?
