FXWars! Bonfire!: Patrick Noland, Forensic, Camping Memories
This sounds like a fun challenge so I'll throw my hat in. I have been wanting to dive into something like this since I started tinkering more with fire and smoke effects.
Did a little test work the past couple days to get started... I'm very new to this sort of work so obviously there is tons of room for improvement. :P https://vimeo.com/69988535 I am using Cinema4D with X-Particles and TurbulenceFD for this challenge. |

Update to my WIP for this project. I had a little issue with the flames looking a bit squared off in parts so I increased the simulation resolution and played with the buoyancy to increase the speed of the flames. I'm getting close to happy with the look of the flames. Next I will work on starting the fire sim from scratch with kindling to roaring flames to simulate a real fire (only a little faster...) Hopefully I'll have time!

This update I started to work more with the fire turning into smoke. This took a little tweaking with TurbulenceFD but I think it's coming along... Also here is a picture of my basic scene setup within Cinema4D.
video: https://vimeo.com/70644379 ![]() There are 5 various sized logs with different polygon selections set to emit the fire from TFD. The small embers that come off the fire are from my x-particle setup using the TFD flames as a modifier driving the motion of the particles. I used the x-particles volume shader to make the embers fade out as they get older. |

I think this will have to be my final entry since I've got other projects I need to work on. This has been a fun challenge! I'm looking forward to seeing all of the other finals for sure.
