BBC 3D programming 'on hold' indefinitely
The end of a fad? On the consumer electronics side, yes, apparently!

Cinema is one thing and I can see the spectacle in doing it, plus the fact that they've pretty much ironed everything. Television is another beast entirely, and in my opinion, as of yet there isn't a universal system or technology - until that happens i don't there will be widespread uptake.

ESPN stopped doing 3d too so I guess 4k is the new 3d.

I'm not surprised at this news. A couple of years ago the local TV stores were full of 3D TVs, they seemed to outnumber normal TVs on the shelves. Now it's a different story, with only a couple of 3D units. SKY TV threw their weight behind 3D, putting stalls into many shopping centres so we could watch football in 3D. But it just didn't catch on here.
I think Duttyfoot has a valid point. It's all 4k and also smart TV now. beinig able to stream from the Internet is a big deal and I'm surprised smart TV hasn't been pushed more by now. __________________

I think its hilarious that the Queen's Christmas Message was one of the programs mentioned to have an underwhelming 3D viewing audience.
I am not particularly 'pro' or 'anti' Queen (we too get her Christmas Message in Canada). But wanting to watch that item in 3d makes as much sense as wanting to watch somebody *sleep* in 3D! Like why bloody bother ya idiots!?! And then why is it so 'remarkable' that it didn't have an audience you the idiots that wrote this news item! Like DAH of course nobody would go out of their way to view the Queen's 'talking head' *in 3D!* for five minutes! Yes the technology will fail because there are too many *stupid people* trying to promote it for it to possibly hope to succeed. Was that a rant?! ![]() |

Like why bloody bother ya idiots!?! Lol, being a yank I wouldn't have seen this but I can imagine a 3D talking head probably isn't going to move many units. The Nintendo Video channel on the 3DS is probably one of the better venues for seeing 3D content. This video showed up today, Little Boat, and in 3D all of the different elements really pop. Birds, rocks, the rain and snow, even the little soldiers. __________________
