Thumbs down

I think I'll make a point of completely avoiding this, due to unfriendly marketing practices. You only get one opportunity to make a first impression, and this one smells really bad.

unfriendly marketing practices? did i miss something?

i was expecting them to have been working on "goblins" from philip reeve.. dunno why but i thought i heard that through the grapevine at one point.. looks fun! Laika has scored 100 percent in the "flipnap range of goodness" to this point so i expect nothing less from this.

I cant vouch for phexitol's reasons, but there is a bit of negative feedback concerning the fact that 'some children have 2 dads' is mentioned in the trailer. Some folk still seem a bit sore over the gay marriage issue.

Well, that wouldn't by definition be "unfriendly".. however, anyone who saw "paranorman" knows it was the first animated film that (arguably) had a gay character.

I think it looks great.
I like the strange and unnerving premise of a boy living in the sewers with some strange creatures.
There are plenty of movies with exploding robots and kickboxing faeries out there, good think Laika sticks to making original stuff.

That's just an un-natural abomination! I mean, boxes? WTF?

Seriously...boxes?

Also, I've seen it mentioned before that ParaNorman had a gay character in it. Who was it? Not being judgmental, just wondering which character they are referring to, or what it was about a character that made people assume he/she was gay. It was pretty far from obvious, at least to me, since I didn't notice at all.

"Unfriendly marketing practices"? This trailer looks great! What on earth are you on about? If, by any chance, you're taking offence to the "two dads" and "two moms" (which I hope you're not) then hey, it's your loss.
