Gollum_ Hobbit, an unexpected journey_ Fan art

Hey guys, This is my recent personal work, Gollum_Fan art, of course Hobbit version . I was really amazed by the facial expression they had created for Gollum and nearly everything about visual effects in the movie was simply awesome. It has been a while since I've been trying to develop my skills in rendering, shading and specially in creating different facial expression so I choosed this lovely creature with those big blue eyes to work on. this is going to be a long work in progress because I am going to create the whole Scene in 3d, those who have seen the movie know how detailed are those rocks in the sequence where Gollum and Bilbo are having a game, so big time! I'm gonna test different facial expressions and body gestures too so only God knows how much time it will take to actually finish it. In the time being , I'm gonna enjoy from working. sorry, talked too much)

This looks awesome man! not much to say other then I think the belly cold use a bit more work, looks a bit to "puffy" while the rest of the rest of the model is so lean. Also I feel like the navel is a bit high but its tough to say due to the pose. The loin cloth also looks a bit rough compared to the rest of your awesome sculpting but I bet its just to early to critique that yet.

all around this is looking great

Great model you have made!
And I like the facial expression they had created for Gollum too,it's the typical character of motion capture.

Gollum is one of my favorite cgi characters. Like you said, all the work in LOTR\Hobbit is really amazing, and Gollum is no exception.

Your model is very good and pretty close to the original. I donít know if you have seen the extended edition DVDís of the LOTR (there's like 3 DVD's of "making of" footage for each film!!) but if not you may be interested in taking a look at that. It may give you some nice tips.

Also I think the face too was mo-cap'd so you may find it useful to check out Andy Serkis for those facial expressions experiences.

Really nice work. Looking forward for those updates.

Thanks for the kind words, here is a test of shading&lighting. I spent lots of time to get the same lighting effects and shading specially for his eyes which was really difficult, I will try to post some other updates like hair and fuzz soon.

Hossein, this is incredible!
Just one advice, I think you could increase just a little bit the volume of the top fold of the ear, it is too thin. Love the eyes!
Can wait to see some expression on him!!
Keep it up

cool modeling, but imho youll need to work on your shading.
crank up the sss... the crevices in the eye wrinkles look very harsh, almost like a dull lambert surface. sss will soften them (and the whole face) quite some bit. itll also add the reddish color bleed i would expect to see there

heres what im talking about

Thanks to the photo you shared, I changed some details of his face such as eye wrinkles and lips. I would appreciate if you could share more close up photos of him. thanks

Hey guys, after changing details of highpoly version, I spent hours on maps and skin shader, specialy on skin because as you mentioned it needed to have more blood visible in parts like ears, nose and Eyelid and it needed more specular weight because it was kind of dry. I think I am getting closer to the original one now.
