Selective illumination

I'm working on a scene, where I put 3D-characters into an existing world(photage). There are some building which cast shadows in the photage, which will cast shadows on the characters in the scene too.

So I create simple geometry to match the buildings and assign them a matte-material, similar I create a plane to be the ground for the characters and assign a matte-material.
Then I add, in this case, a directional light as a primary light source.

I want the light illuminate the character and cast shadow on the ground. Then I want the shadows from the building only be casted onto the character so there are no shadows on the ground from the building-geometry.

How do I set up such light setting in 3D Studio Max?

Edit: Added my primary light source to the list of "shadow casting lights list" which solved the problem.
